I?m the worst kind of sports fan, in the sense that I don?t like sport (at all), so hearing that?Gerard Butler?has signed on to star in upcoming soccer movie Dynamo?didn?t get me all that excited. Well, not until I found out that it?s set during World War II and has Nazis in it. Now you?ve got my attention, Hollywood.
Based on Andy Dougan?s non-fiction book Dynamo: Defending the Honour of Kiev,?the film is based on the true story of a Ukrainian soccer team and their Nazi captors. Butler is set to play Nikolai Trusevich, the team?s goalie and captain, who inspired the Nazis to put together a super-team, and, like, play against them. The resulting game came to be known as ?The Death Match.? Seriously.
The screenplay was written by Eli Richbourg, though there?s no news as to who will direct the movie just yet.
What are your thoughts? Historical epics seem to be really in right now, and Hollywood are pushing a lot of ?em out. Do you think Gerard Butler can lead his team to glory (and put on a good Ukrainian accent)?
