'Sister Wives' star Kody: I am not a womanizer

"Sister Wives" star Kody Brown has four wives and 17 kids. That's known. But what isn't quite so common knowledge is why he and his family have chosen this polygamist lifestyle.
In a tell-all interview with NBC News' Natalie Morales, the family behind TLC's reality show -- Kody and wives Meri, Janelle, Christine and Robyn?-- answer Natalie's questions about polygamy, the revelations in their new book, "Becoming Sister Wives," and more.

One of the things the family brings up in the tome is Kody's past -- specifically, how he had a lot of girlfriends in high school. Some might say that's not particularly surprising, considering he now has four wives. (He's legally married to only his first wife, Meri.)
In a clip of the interview from TLC, Kody explained the girlfriend tidbit to his host, saying that when he was 14, he was trying to figure out his life as a wild boy and answering his calling to be a spiritual person.
Natalie's response? "So it wasn't that you chose religion to be a womanizer?"
After a stunned silence, Kody replied, "Is that what you think I am, a womanizer?" He went on to defend himself and his family, insisting that he had "done the emotional work" in his relationships with his wives, and "shouldered their needs as much as I could." And also, "I was never womanizing. ... This is NOT an open marriage," he insisted.

It costs just $1.36 to charge an iPad for a year

NEW YORK (AP) ? That coffee you're drinking while gazing at your iPad? It cost more than all the electricity needed to run those games, emails, videos and news stories for a year.
The annual cost to charge an iPad is just $1.36, according to the Electric Power Research Institute, a non-profit research and development group funded by electric utilities.
By comparison, a 60-watt compact fluorescent bulb costs $1.61, a desktop PC adds up to $28.21 and a refrigerator runs you $65.72.
The group, known as EPRI, studied the power consumption of Apple Inc.'s iPad to determine the effect that the newly-popular devices might have on the nation's electricity use.
The answer: not much.
If the number of iPads triples from the current 67 million, they would need the electricity from one small power plant operating at full strength.
But if people are using iPads instead of televisions to play video games, or ditching their desktop computers for iPads, the shift to tablets could mean lower overall power consumption. A desktop computer uses 20 times more power than an iPad.
Baskar Vairmohan, the EPRI researcher who conducted the iPad test, said the group is now studying usage to understand whether the explosion of tablets is adding to power consumption, or reducing it.
Residential power demand is on track to fall for the third straight year, according to the government. A weak economy is keeping people in smaller houses and shacked up with others. At the same time, efficiency programs are pushing more efficient light bulbs, air conditioners and other devices into homes. Refrigerators use a quarter of the power they used a generation ago, according to EPRI.
For the iPad test, Vairmohan measured the amount of power used to charge up an iPad with a drained battery. He assumed that users would charge up every other day. Over a year, the latest version of the iPad consumed 11.86 kilowatt-hours of electricity. (Older versions consume somewhat less power.)
The juice would cost $1.36 at the U.S. average residential price of 11.49 cents per kilowatt-hour.
But there's an even cheaper way to go than the iPad. EPRI calculated the cost of power needed to fuel an iPhone 4 for year: just 38 cents.

Bad guys win?
How about we have a roleplay following a group of individuals who are the bad guys, or at least anti-heroes? I have a couple of ideas for this that aren't developed too much at the moment, but oh well. You can choose one of those, suggest one of your own, or pick none of them (you big meanie!). I'll put more thought into this concept of "the bad guys win" if that idea gains enough interest.
The first idea is one where an evil empire is attacking the good guy kingdom, only our guys are the evil minions and not as tough as the hero/band of heroes rampaging through our forces, not to mention we are heavily outnumbered in the area our people are fighting. Our group is tasked with brining down the heroes, which seems impossible for our lowely minion status, but we need to take on the challenge anyways. Obviously, that would be the final boss and we'd be fighting the good guy army a ton before then. We'd be outnumbered in all of our battles, so we'd have to toughen up a lot in order to survive.
The second idea is that we follow a mad scientist bent on world domination, or perhaps an expert hacker. Yep. That's all I got on that one for now.

Green Day Go Power-Pop On Uno!, Dos!, Tre! Trilogy

As if the prevalence of phrases like "It's F--- Time!" (or the fact that it's three separate albums) weren't already evidence enough, Green Day are letting it be known that their upcoming ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, ¡Tré! trilogy is going to be a departure from their recent work.
In a new interview with Rolling Stone, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong says that Green Day are moving away from the massive sound (and scope) they explored on American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown in favor of leaner, meaner rock.
"The last two records were studio albums. This one, we started rehearsing every day, constructing these songs together," Armstrong told RS's David Fricke. "It felt like we were all in a room jamming ... everyone in the mix, throwing out ideas. If you listen to it, it feels grand. But it also feels like a garage band."
And while the upcoming trilogy, produced by Rob Cavallo (the first installment, ¡Uno!, is due September 25), may signal a return to the raw, don't expect Green Day to rehash the scruffy punk of their earlier albums. Instead, Armstrong said the band is focused on honing their sound.
"My son asked me, 'Dad, would you ever go back to playing songs like from Dookie or Kerplunk?' I love those records. I love the punk stuff I grew up on. But there are so many bands who make the mistake, 'We're going back, old-school.' Well ... you already did it," he said. "So we're changing the guitar sound. We're not going with the big Marshall-amp thing. We wanted something punchier, more power-pop. Somewhere between AC/DC and the early Beatles."
And yes, Green Day are aware their new albums warrant comparison to some previous over-the-top efforts (the Clash's triple-LP Sandinista!, Kiss' four solo albums), but that's not stopping them for going for greatness with ¡Uno!, ¡Dos! and —Tré!
"The songs just kept coming, kept coming. I'd go, 'Maybe a double album? No, that's too much nowadays.' ... And one day, I sprung it on the others: 'Instead of Van Halen I, II and III, what if it's Green Day I, II and III, and we all have our faces on each cover?' " Armstrong said. "The last record got so serious. We wanted to make things more fun."
