Panasonic spins off Sanyo DI Solutions, keeps the digital camera OEMs happy

Panasonic spins off Sanyo DI Solutions

Panasonic and Sanyo have only been life partners for about a year and a half now, but already the relationship has created a bundle of joy -- of a sort. Hot on the heels of some less-than-chipper financial news comes word that Panasonic is spinning off a portion of Sanyo. Sanyo DI Solutions is the name for the new creation, which will represent the company's efforts in producing OEM digital cameras -- cameras that get slapped with other manufacturers' labels before being sold as such. According to AV Watch, Panasonic's ownership had put a strain on Sanyo's fragile manufacturing partnerships, partnerships that can now bear beautiful, rebadged fruit. Sanyo DI Solutions will start with 10 million yen in capital and will go fully independent on July 1st. Hopefully it remembers to call home from time to time.

RIM's first BlackBerry 10 device may come as early as October

RIM's first BlackBerry 10 device may come as early as October

It's no secret that there's currently a sense of urgency in Waterloo, but if a recent report from N4BB is accurate, it seems that both consumers and enterprise are bound to benefit. According to the site's confidential source, Research in Motion is preparing to reveal its first BlackBerry 10 device in mid-August and will have the product in the hands of consumers by October. We'd previously known that RIM intends to have these units in the hands of developers next month, which gives a bit of credence to this most recent revelation. As for what consumers may expect, the first device is said to offer just a touchscreen, whereas we'll need to wait until Q1 of next year to see a handset with a physical QWERTY keyboard. As you'll recall, the company's previous leader, Mike Lazaridis, previously stated that consumers wouldn't see a BlackBerry 10 device until the end of the year, but this was due entirely to a shortage of the chipset that RIM deemed crucial to its manufacture. Perhaps Mr. Heins was able to light a bit of a fire under the company's partners, no?

Presenting: Guess the Celebrity Twit Pic!

A very well-known young woman took it easy this week and posted a photo of herself relaxing on Twitter. Can you guess who it is, based solely on a shot of her legs?

Miley Cyrus Twit Pic

The Twitter user in question is...

... MILEY CYRUS!

Indeed, the singer/actress Tweeted the image above on Monday, adding the following caption to the photo:

As you can see i have a very busy Monday ;)

Miley probably wishes that were true, that she could perhaps be out promoting a movie. But it was announced this week that LOL - in which Cyrus stars opposite Demi Moore - will only open in seven cities across the nation. Ouch. Tough break.

The star, meanwhile, looks to be taking a new, laid back approach to Twitter. She has gotten in trouble in the past for expressing certain views over the social network, most recently when fans took issue with what they perceived to be a diss of Jesus Christ.

Harvard tired of overpaying for research, tells faculty to open up

Image

The grand dame of Ivy League schools is taking action against one of higher learning's pet peeves: the exorbitant price of research journals. Even though the e-reader revolution may have already touched other schoolbooks, so far academic subscription prices -- with some journals as high as $40,000 -- are becoming unsustainable, according to Harvard. To that end, it's taking the lead and pushing its own faculty toward open access publishing, and encouraging them to quit boards of journals that aren't. That could in turn prod other schools to take the same steps, and allow Harvard to focus on more, ahem, interesting pursuits.

Robert Rodriguez Reminisces About His Early Film 'Roadracers'

Robert Rodriguez loves "Roadracers," a film he made on a sliver of a budget in between his indie hit "El Mariachi" and his breakout "Desperado." He told me that much almost as soon as he got on the phone. "I love 'Roadracers,' " he said. "It is one of my favorite movies." You could hear [...]

Restoration through ? An Affair? ? A Modern Onesimus

I recently read an article by Michael Formica focusing on extramarital affairs.? He discusses four primary types of affairs people in relationships might engage when drawn away from their primary relationship.? The primary relationship would be the marriage relationship between husband and wife.

  • The object affair where focus is shifted to something else other than the person in the primary relationship.
  • The sexual affair which is a strictly ?hit it and quit it? mentality toward sex and is acted with someone outside the primary relationship.
  • The emotional affair which is revolves around abstract fantasy and never has any real physical interaction with the other person.
  • The secondary affair which is contains all the expectations and rituals of a primary relationship such as emotion, physical and social interaction, conflict, and a sense of shared values.? The difference is it is conditional on never becoming a primary relationship.

The fourth type of affair, Mr. Formica alleges, may be good for your primary relationship.? It is this type of affair that can reenergize and restore lost passion in your primary relationship while teaching you about your personal needs and expectations.? It is this type affair that can restore your relationship to its former passion and excitement.? Although he does discourage cheating, he stops just short of personal relativism.

Although I applaud Mr. Formica for looking to the positive, he forgets one blaring fact of extramarital affairs.? He forgets the broken relationship left in ruins by sin.? Sure, one person may learn from an affair and become a better person for it.? There?s another person (or in affair ? a couple of other people) who have to deal with not being good enough to commit to fully.? Affairs leave people emotionally and spiritually devastated.

Mr. Formica is asking good questions but comes to an incorrect conclusion in his article.? As a pastor, husband, father, and man I have a role to play in the formation of how my daughters see the world, view men, and look forward to future marital relationships.? How I love, cherish, honor, and respect my wife will set the example they will follow and look toward their entire lives.
