The duo, Bill and Giuliana, publicly announced in the month of April that they are expecting a baby. So they have planned a baby shower in the upcoming month.

On an exclusive interview to E news, the couple stated the theme for the preplanned baby shower on June 17th would be, ?Blue or Pink.? Even the invitation also displays the theme to be reached out to the guest.

Since planning for the baby shower, both of them have taken a break from work to complete the occasion with ease as reported.

According to the sources, the works have been postponed, and few are held back due to this pregnancy. But Giuliana have promised to come back soon in proper slim trim figure, after becoming the mom as the sources said.

After hearing the news of Giuliana become a mother her family members arranged a surprise baby shower in the office yellow and green color theme for all irrespective of men and women as invitees, the sources revealed.

It is also reported that the work is a little bit hampered, but the Rancics are highly excited after the news of the offspring to be coming.

NC Makes Sea Level Rise Illegal

According to North Carolina law, I am a billionaire. I have a full-time nanny for my children, I have won the Pulitzer Prize, and I get to spend the entire year taking guitar lessons from Mark Knopfler. Oh, my avatar? I haven?t got around to changing it, but by law, I now look like George Clooney. There?s also a supermodel clause, but discussing the details would be boasting.

You think I?m kidding, but listen to me: I?m from North Carolina, and that?s how we roll. We take what we want to be reality, and we just make it law. So I?m having my state senator introduce legislation writing into law all the stuff I mentioned above. This is North Carolina, state motto: ?Because that?s how I WANT it to be.?

You know, of course, about our passing May 8 of Amendment One, which has now written into our constitution anti-marriage discrimination against anyone who doesn?t fit one group?s image of marriage. It?s just as ugly as it sounds ? just as ugly as the last time we wrote such marriage discrimination into our constitution, in 1875, when instead of protecting us against the idea of same-sex couples marrying, it was protecting us against racial miscegenation ? down to the third generation, mind you. Good times!

Okay, though. These are hard days, people are crazyish, and you just have to soldier on, right? But then it turns out that North Carolina legislators are now tossing around bills that not only protect themselves from concepts that make them uncomfortable, they?re DETERMINING HOW WE MEASURE REALITY.

In a story first discussed by the NC Coastal Federation and given more play May 29 by the News & Observer of Raleigh and its sister paper the Charlotte Observer, a group of legislators from 20 coastal NC counties whose economies will be most affected by rising seas have legislated the words ?Nuh-unh!? into the NC Constitution.

Okay, cheap shot alert. Actually all they did was say science is crazy. There is virtually universal agreement among scientists that the sea will probably rise a good meter or more before the end of the century, wreaking havoc in low-lying coastal counties. So the members of the developers? ?lobbying group NC-20, the sea will rise only 8 inches, because ? because ? well, SHUT UP, that?s because why.

That is, the meter or so of sea level rise predicted for the NC Coastal Resources Commission by a state-appointed board of scientists is extremely inconvenient for counties along the coast. So the NC-20 types have decided that we can escape sea level rise ? in North Carolina, anyhow ? by making it against the law. Or making MEASURING it against the law, anyhow.

Here?s a link to the circulated Replacement House Bill 819. The key language is in section 2, paragraph e, talking about rates of sea level rise: ?These rates shall only be determined using historical data, and these data shall be limited to the time period following the year 1900. Rates of seas-level rise may be extrapolated linearly. ?? It goes on, but there?s the core: North Carolina legislators have decided that the way to make exponential increases in sea level rise ? caused by those inconvenient feedback loops we keep hearing about from scientists ? go away is to make it against the law to extrapolate exponential; we can only extrapolate along a line predicted by previous sea level rises.

Which, yes, is exactly like saying, do not predict tomorrow?s weather based on radar images of a hurricane swirling offshore, moving west towards us with 60-mph winds and ten inches of rain. Predict the weather based on the last two weeks of fair weather with gentle breezes towards the east. Don?t use radar and barometers; use the Farmer?s Almanac and what grandpa remembers.

Things like marriage rules involve changing social mores and those who feel that certain types of marriage are wrong can be understood and even forgiven. They?re certainly on the wrong side of history, but it?s a social issue where emotion understandably holds sway over things like evidence.

But while the rising sea may engender emotion, it exists in a world of fact, of measurable evidence and predictable results, where scientists using their best methods have agreed on a reasonable ? and conservative ? estimate of a meter or more of rising seas in the coming century. In 2007 the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change gave a hesitant estimate of up to 59 centimeters of rise ?but even two years later that estimate already appeared low and scientists began to expect a rise of a meter or more.

No matter in North Carolina. We?ve got resorts to build and we don?t care what the rest of the ocean does ? our sea isn?t going to rise by more than 15.6 inches. Because otherwise it?s against the law.

No information on whether the scientists on the panel, like Galileo, have stamped their feet and muttered ?And yet it rises!? But there?s no doubt that NC?s legislative inquisitors will be classified along with Galileo?s papal persecutors and their own forebears who outlawed interracial marriage, as on the wrong side of history.

But these folks will also be wet.

SPRING Singapore?s Enterprise Development Centres?are stepping up their efforts to help SMEs stay?competitive and productive in uncertain economic times.

While businesses are dealing with the challenges of rising?business costs and a tighter labour market, there are bright?spots on the horizon. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) can?look forward to more help from Enterprise Development Centres?(EDCs), as the government steps up its engagement efforts to?boost productivity in smaller firms.

By partnering trade associations and chambers (TACs), SPRING?Singapore aims to reach out to 20,000 enterprises annually and?help them capitalise on grant schemes to raise productivity. This?marks an increase from the 14,200 firms that received productivity?and business advice from the EDCs last year.

?We recognise that SMEs need help to make this transition to?create innovative products and services, upgrade skills, design?better jobs, leverage technology and find new markets overseas,??says Mr Teo Ser Luck, Minister of State for Trade and Industry, at?the fourth EDC Conference on 28 March this year.

SMEs can approach any of the EDCs, which are located at the?premises of five TACs, for one-to-one advisory services on areas?such as financial and human resource management, branding,?and overseas expansion.

?Companies today need to enhance their competitiveness in the?marketplace and keep pace with rapid changes in technological?innovation, market upheavals and changing consumer needs so?as to ensure their survival and growth,? says Mr Hernaikh Singh,?director of the EDC at the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce?& Industry.

?The EDCs play an important role in helping companies identify?and implement relevant assistance programmes to address their?needs,? he adds.

Helping companies to work smarter

Orchid Laundry is one of the approximately 60,000?SMEs that has benefited from collaborating with?an EDC over the past six years. Orchid Laundry?s?Director, Mr Harry Toh, explains, ?In 2011, our?company reached a roadblock when we faced
a manpower shortage. We knew the only way we could increase?our capacity was with existing or fewer headcount. One option?was to automate our laundry processes but we didn?t know?how.? Acting on the advice provided by business advisors at the?Singapore Manufacturers Federation, the company embarked?on the Productivity Management Programme. Following an?in-depth diagnosis of the company?s productivity issues, Orchid?Laundry was able to streamline and automate its processes to?improve its performance.

For family-owned food manufacturer Hock Lian Huat Foodstuff,?process automation helped it improve its productivity. The company,?which approached the EDC at the Singapore Manufacturers??Federation for productivity advice, invested in a new machine?to make prawn crackers, an ingredient in ?ngoh hiang?, the?traditional meat rolls that are one of its main products. Now?only two workers are needed for this process, down from four.

EDCs provide one-to-one advisory services on?areas such as financial and human resource?management, branding, and overseas expansion.

The EDC also helped the company to tap $120,000 of tax rebates?under the Productivity and Innovation Credit (PIC) scheme. To?help more SMEs understand how they can benefit from the PIC?programme, the EDCs will conduct a new series of clinics from?May to October this year. About 500 SMEs are expected to benefit?from these sessions. The clinics, which are run in collaboration?with the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS), benefited?some 300 SMEs last year.

Reaching out with an iPhone app

Besides approaching the EDCs, companies can?also access information on various assistance?schemes through the EnterpriseOne web?portal. The site provides businesses with?government information and e-services. It?received six million page views from more than 560,000?unique visitors last year.?To reach out to more users, a new EnterpriseOne iPhone?application has been launched. Jointly developed by SPRING?and Nanyang Polytechnic, the app brings together commonly?used features on the web portal and offers increased?accessibility to information on government assistance?schemes as well as SME-related news in Singapore.

Developing SME capabilities

In addition to plans to expand the reach of the?EDCs, SPRING has also increased funding support?to $200 million for SME capability development?programmes from April this year. This top-up?will benefit an additional 1,800 projects aimed at?building up capabilities and restructuring businesses for sustained?growth and competitiveness for SMEs. The enhanced support will?last for three years and will cover areas such as human capital?development, technology adoption, innovation and productivity.

?The Government is committed to supporting SMEs in their?upgrading efforts. SPRING Singapore will intensify its outreach?to SMEs to help them understand how they can tap government?assistance programmes to raise productivity,? says Mr Teo.

Stocks tumble amid rising Europe worries

Rising bond yields in Italy and a bank crisis in Spain dragged Wall Street lower on Wednesday, as Europe's financial woes continued to dictate the direction of U.S. stocks.

Angst over Europe's outlook drove investors from risky investments into safe-haven assets. U.S. Treasury benchmark yields fell to a 60-year low, prices for crude were down more than 3 percent and the euro fell below $1.24 to a 23-month low.

The Dow Jones industrial average closed the day down 161 points, having lost as much as 184 points earlier in the session.

The broader S&P 500 is down nearly 6 percent in May, headed for its worst monthly performance since September.

Yields rose sharply at an Italian sale of five- and 10-year debt, and investors worried about Spain's plans to raise new funds as that country's borrowing costs also rose. Adding to worries were Greece's upcoming election, which could determine if the country will stay in the euro zone or leave.

The CBOE volatility index, a gauge of market anxiety, jumped 10 percent.

"You're seeing the deterioration in Spain gain magnitude and that is worrisome because it involves a larger bailout [than Greece's] and far more capital to alleviate banking problems," said Quincy Krosby, market strategist at Prudential Financial in Newark, New Jersey.

"Traders and long-term investors believe Europeans are working on solutions. But the ultimate question is will capital markets give them the time before a liquidity issue becomes a solvency issue."

Facebook?s share price sank to a new low, off 2.3 percent at $28.19.

U.S.-traded shares of Research In Motion tumbled after the BlackBerry maker warned it would likely report a quarterly operating loss. Analysts cut their price targets on RIM shares and said the odds of a turnaround at the company are fading fast.

Pep Boys Manny, Moe & Jack lost a fifth of its market value after private equity firm Gores Group walked away from a $791 million deal to buy the auto parts retailer.

U.S. economic data showed contracts to purchase previously owned U.S. homes unexpectedly fell in April to a four-month low, dealing a blow to optimism the housing sector may have hit a bottom.

While this book isn?t about social media, per se, if you are looking for guidelines for creating a social media policy for your business, take a look at the Honesty ROI starting on page 27. In this case, ROI stands for relationship (say who you?re representing), opinion (only say what you really believe), and identity (never lie about who you are). Following these simple rules and teaching them to your employees is a great social media policy as well as for building a business people want to talk about.

A MotherHood Experience: Riding with the Family

In early May we were introduced to the world of the e-scooter when hubby drove home with our very first electric scooter. I was an observer at first, watching him drive around with ease to wherever he needed to go. K was the first to join as a passenger and it became ritual that if he needed to run an errand, K goes with him for the ride.?

I could drive one of these things, they only go 32km/hr no faster than a pedal-powered bicycle. I showed interest, asking questions about it and reading as much information about owning one as I could online. I'm very visual so videos on YouTube also helped in my research.?

Now, I was thinking along the lines of sharing the Emmo bike. Sure I had never ever driven one before in my life but I had to start somewhere. Hubby had a different idea, he wanted me to have my own. One like his that sat two passengers so we could all go on rides. He did his own research and within a few weeks we had a second-hand second e-scooter.?

It's an AuCma, it's hard to find online if you search for it; I don't think they are made in Canada but it's a great bike. The first time I got to ride it however, we didn't get along very well. I was nervous not really knowing what to expect, I was really building it up in my mind bigger than what it was I think and that brought on my nerves. Again, a scooter not a bus. When I turned the throttle and the scooter took off I couldn't coordinate myself to control the bike so I was wobbly.?


After a few rounds back and forth up the street I took control of the scooter, I got the hang of it! Unfortunately that was a short ride as we had just got the scooter second-hand and hubby wanted to take a look at it before taking it any further than down the street.?

I didn't get to ride again for a while actually because hubby wanted to install an alarm on it. When he was installing the alarm something went awry with the wiring and he ended up blowing all the lights in the bike. It took him a few tries but he finally managed to fix both my lights and my alarm! It's really handy to live with MacGyver.?

I have really taken a liking to these things, they are small and simple to operate plus they cost nothing on gas. Very cheap to charge the battery by plugging it in as it only takes a few hours to fully charge.?

So, Saturday I took her out for a first official drive around the block. Some guy got in my way and laughed at me when I asked him to move. It was either move or be run over buddy, mama was practicing!?

After a few rounds around the neighborhood I got the hang of it again, it's really fun! Of course Miss K begged me to take her on a ride, she liked riding with daddy but really wanted to go with me. We went around the block a couple of times and she wanted more. She says we are now "bike buddies" ;-)

In my last post I talked about how we weren't going to be letting little guy on the e-scooters but he was very sad about that. He really wanted to ride on daddy's scooter, he saw K riding on daddy's scooter and that wasn't fair. Hubby felt so bad he went to Canadian Tire and bought him a new helmet with matching elbow/knee pads, Lightning McQueen themed and all!?

If these were gas-powered motorcycles it would be a different story. The kids wouldn't be allowed on, no question but considering they don't go very fast, the kids are tall enough and I also trust my hubby - we took little guy on his first ride around the block to see how he would do. He LOVED it, he squealed with joy all the way and didn't let go of his daddy. I actually caught the first ride on video, it's really cute.


We had our first family ride this weekend, K came with me on my scooter and little guy with hubby. We took the kids all around and stopped at McDonald's for a little treat! We took an easy route through smaller side streets with minimal traffic, I don't like driving where there are a lot of cars especially if I have a passenger. Safety first as I always say.
Sure, they aren't cars but who cares? They are great for spring, summer and fall seasons. They get us around the small areas we need to get with the kids and they are also fun for everyone.?

It is going to be fun zipping around all summer on our e-scooters. We are planning on taking the kids on many more fun adventures, this is just the beginning!?

Syria denies responsibility for attack killing 90

DAMASCUS, Syria (AP) ? The Syrian government on Sunday denied responsibility for killings in a string of villages that left more than 90 people dead, blaming the killings on "hundreds of heavily armed gunmen" who also attacked soldiers in the area.

Friday's assault on the central area of Houla was one of the bloodiest single events in Syria's 15-month-old uprising, and gruesome images of dozens of children killed in the attacks prompted a wave of international outrage.

The U.N. said 32 children under the age of 10 were among the dead and issued a statement appearing to hold the Syrian regime responsible. Persistent violence has cast doubt about the future of international efforts to halt 14 months of bloodshed between the regime and forces fighting against it.

The U.N. Security Council convened an emergency session for late Sunday to discuss the killing. Diplomats said Russia blocked a strong statement condemning the killing, insisting on a briefing from the head of the observer mission first.

Activists from Houla said Saturday that regime forces had peppered the area with mortar shells after large demonstrations against the regime on Friday. That evening, they said, pro-regime fighters known as shabiha stormed the villages, gunning down men in the streets and stabbing women and children in their homes.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Jihad Makdissi disputed those accounts, saying Syria is being subjected to a "tsunami of lies."

"We categorically deny the responsibility of government forces for the massacre," Makdissi said Sunday during a news conference in Damascus.

Giving the regime's version of events, Makdissi said "hundreds of heavily armed gunmen carrying machine guns, mortars and anti-tank missiles" launched a simultaneous attack against five army positions from several locations, starting about 2 p.m. and continuing for nine hours. Three soldiers were killed and 16 were wounded, he said.

"There were no Syrian tanks or artillery in the vicinity" of Houla, Makdissi said. He said that gunmen used anti-tank missiles and "Syrian troops retaliated in defense of their positions."

"Children, women and other innocent people were killed in their homes, and this is not what the Syrian army does," Makdissi said. "The method of killing was brutal."

Makdissi said a committee was set up to investigate the attack, and results should be out within three days. He added that Kofi Annan, the joint U.N.-Arab League envoy, will fly to Syria on Monday.

But a senior Arab League official said Syria has denied permission for Annan's deputy to travel to Damascus. Syria insisted the decision against former Palestinian Foreign Minister Nasser al-Kidwa was not personal, but rather because it did not want to deal with the Arab League, the official said on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the subject.

The Houla attacks sparked outrage from American and other international leaders, and renewed concerns about the relevance of a 6-week-old international peace plan that has not stopped almost daily violence. The U.N. put the death toll weeks ago at more than 9,000. Hundreds have been killed since.

U.N. observers, among more than 250 who were dispatched in recent weeks to try to salvage the cease-fire plan, found spent artillery and tank shells at the site Saturday ? a finding that points toward the government's heavily armed mechanized units.

On Sunday, Britain's Foreign Secretary William Hague said he would summon Syria's most senior diplomat in the U.K. on Monday so the Foreign Office's political director could "make clear our condemnation of the Syrian regime's actions."

Syria says the Arab League has become a tool of the West. The group suspended Syria's membership and approved sanctions against it late last year.

Kuwait, which currently heads the 22-member Cairo-based Arab League, announced it is calling for an Arab ministerial meeting that aims to "take steps to put an end to the oppressive practices against the Syrian people."

Late Saturday, Foreign Minister Sheik Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates condemned the killings in Houla and called for an urgent meeting of the Arab League.

Activists said government troops shelled residential areas in other areas of central Syria on Sunday.

The shelling hit neighborhoods in the central city of Hama and the rebel-held town of Rastan north of Homs, the Local Coordination Committees and the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The two groups also reported clashes between troops and rebels in Hama, in the Damascus suburb of Harasta and in the capital's central Midan district. They said a bomb struck a security vehicle in the capital's upscale district of Mazzeh, near a military airport, according to the LCC.

The Observatory said the vehicle bombing caused casualties but did not have further details.

Damascus is tightly controlled by regime forces but has been hit by a wave of bomb blasts over recent months that killed scores of people. Most of the blasts have targeted Syrian security agencies.

CAIRO (AP) ? The runoff vote for Egypt's next president will pit the Muslim Brotherhood's candidate against the last prime minister to serve under Hosni Mubarak, according to full official results released Monday by the election commission.

Commission chief Farouq Sultan told a news conference that the Brotherhood's Mohammed Morsi and Ahmed Shafiq, a former air force commander and a longtime friend of the ousted leader, were the top two finishers in the first round of voting held on May 23-24.

He said Morsi won 5.76 million votes, while Shafiq garnered 5.5 million. Finishing a close third was leftist candidate Hamdeen Sabahi with 4.82 million votes.

Sultan said his commission received a total of seven appeals, and rejected all of them. Four of the appeals were dismissed because they had no legal basis, while the other three were not accepted because they were submitted after the deadline, he said.

Morsi and Shafiq have been the most polarizing of the 13 candidates who contested the first round, setting the stage for a fiercely contested runoff June 16-17. Already, both men have begun reaching out to a broad spectrum of political and demographic groups who didn't support them in the first round, or nearly half of the 25 millions who voted.

About 50 of Egypt's estimated 82 million people are eligible voters.

It fought one great war, the Civil War, to secure that blessing for all Americans?a war in which more than 350,000 gave their lives. ?</p> <p>In the last one hundred years another 600,000 Americans died in order to pass that liberty on to others, from Belleau Wood in World War One to the streets of Kabul. They died, and others served, so that Filipinos, Frenchmen, Koreans, Vietnamese, Afghans, and Iraqis could live free from tyranny, and experience the freedom we hold as a birthright.</p> <p>And in exchange, as General Colin Powell once put it, ?the only land we ever asked for was enough to bury our dead.?</p> <p>Yet those plots of land are more than resting places for our war dead. ?Thomas Jefferson once spoke of the blood of patriots watering the tree of liberty. ?</p> <p>The graves of our veterans are ?truly gardens of freedom where the spirit of those who sacrificed everything to give freedom to others, can rise ?up to inspire us to defend our own.</p> <p>Theirs is a harvest which we gather every day.?</p> <p>Memorial Day reaches out beyond our veterans, living and dead, to embrace all Americans?and to remind them that freedom is never free, in peacetime as well as war.</p> <p>Today, unfortunately, nothing is sacred. ?That includes the graves of our war dead and veterans. ?Every day brings new stories about resting places vandalized or decaying with neglect. ?</p> <p>In one Boston cemetery 250 brass flag standards were stolen from soldiers? graves to sell for scrap. ?A maintenance supervisor at a national cemetery outside Milwaukee was arrested for using the burial plots as his private dumping ground.</p> <p>Meanwhile, the National Cemetery Association?s budget has been stuck at $250 million for more than a decade?that?s about half of what our government gave to Solyndra?even the numbers of World War Two and Korean War veterans passing on, has been soaring. ?</p> <p>Those graves proclaim that the gift of liberty can never be taken for granted.
